Conversion of Commercial Building to SFDA Laboratory

1,200 Ton HVAC System, Laboratory Furniture & Specialized Systems

We have delivered comprehensive MEP, HVAC, and laboratory infrastructure services for the conversion of an existing commercial building into an SFDA-compliant laboratory facility in Jeddah. The project required transforming a standard commercial environment into a highly controlled laboratory space that meets strict regulatory, safety, and operational requirements set by the Saudi Food & Drug Authority.

Scope of Work
Our scope covered the design coordination, installation support, testing, and commissioning of a 1,200-ton HVAC system engineered specifically for laboratory operations. In addition to HVAC, Shan TAB was responsible for laboratory furniture integration, fume hood systems, fire alarm and fire suppression systems, high-purity gas piping networks, and a dedicated document transportation system. Each system was carefully planned to operate seamlessly within the laboratory environment while meeting SFDA and international standards.
Technical Highlights
The HVAC system was designed to maintain precise temperature, humidity, airflow, and pressure control across laboratory zones. Fume hoods and lab ventilation systems were tested and validated to ensure safe containment and exhaust performance. High-purity gas piping installations were executed with strict quality controls, while fire life safety systems were tested to ensure full compliance. All systems underwent rigorous Testing, Adjusting, and Balancing along with performance verification prior to commissioning.
Project Impact
The successful conversion resulted in a fully functional, SFDA-approved laboratory facility capable of supporting advanced testing and regulatory activities. Shan TAB’s integrated approach ensured reliable environmental control, safe laboratory operations, and long-term system performance. The project delivered a compliant, efficient, and future-ready laboratory environment with complete documentation and verified commissioning results.
